Excellence in Architecture Winner Broadview Missionary Baptist Church, Broadview, Illinois The design of this church reflected the pastor’s vision of the congregation gathered for worship within a dome structure. Other important considerations included a limited budget and an emphasis on community for the African-American congregation. The foyer was designed as an important space for the church members to gather after service. It is enhanced by natural light, a fountain symbolic of the twelve apostles, and durable finishes. The sanctuary is a fan-shaped design wrapping around the platform, baptistery, and the 200-person choir. The 80,265 square foot project was completed in 2004 for $165 per square foot. The Church has been enthusiastically received by the congregation with a major increase in church membership and attendance. Jury Comment: Embodiment of Light and Airiness
