The Village’s new Municipal Center comprised of a Village Hall and Police Station is located adjacent to the nearby Nature Center. The primary challenge for the project was to integrate the design of the Municipal Center with the existing Nature Center and wetland environments. The use of stone, brick and wood, inside and out, creates an architectural character complementary to the building’s natural surroundings.  The new 42,000 square foot Municipal Center houses the Village administration, Board Room, community spaces, a new home for the Village Nature Center offices and the Police Department. The building is designed with two primary entrances off a shared municipal plaza for the respective portions of the building. The Village Hall is two stories plus a basement while the Police Department is two levels with one at the entry level and a lower “walk-out” basement level.

Jury Comment:

  • Blend of modern architecture with Midwestern prairie style
  • This looks like a building you would hope to find in Chicago and the Midwest
  • Very skillfully detailed
